Why can’t I use the Steam Community Market?

Check limited-account status, purchase history, Steam Guard and the message behind a Community Market restriction.

Read the Market’s message before guessing

A Steam account can be blocked from the Community Market for more than one reason. Limited-user status is one possibility; purchase history and Steam Guard requirements are others. The message shown by Steam is the best place to start.

A large library or a high inventory value does not tell you which condition is missing. Check the feature you actually need.

Is the account still limited?

Valve currently requires at least $5.00 USD equivalent in qualifying Steam spending to remove limited-user restrictions. Some ways of adding games, including retail-key activation and receiving gifted games, do not meet that spending requirement.

Money spent buying an account from accs.io is a separate purchase. It is not money spent by that Steam account in the Steam store.

Market access has additional checks

Valve’s current Market FAQ also requires a successful purchase older than seven days but less than a year old, plus Steam Guard enabled for fifteen days. Individual items can have restrictions of their own.

That is why “not limited” and “can use the Market right now” are not interchangeable. Check the current message, then look at the specific item if only one sale or trade is affected.

What if you recently changed security settings?

A new device, password reset or Authenticator change can leave you looking at a different situation from an older screenshot. The trade-hold guide explains the common cases. Complete the security work you need, then follow the message for the remaining wait.

If Market access matters when shopping, use the catalog’s Market option and inspect the account details. If you only want to play games, focus on the titles and editions first rather than paying for a feature you do not need.
